Plant Essentials
Fertilizer/ feed for the plant:Feed your Calathea a fertiliser that is high in nitrogen every three weeks in its growing month of summers. In winters, feed the fertiliser less frequently, but avoid overfertilization to prevent damage to the foliage. Repotting : Repot your Calathea annually in rich well-draining soil in a one size larger pot when it outgrows its current pot. Propogation : Calatheas can be propagated by division of the main rhizome after the parent plant has grown enough in size and is mature. It can also be propagated by stem cuttings.
Common Problems
1. Calathea leaves are turning brown Under-watering and excessive use of fertiliser both can lead to browning of leaves. Water your plant less frequently and reduce the amount of fertiliser you use if this problem occurs and persists. 2. My Calathea leaves are curling A lack of moisture causes curling of Calathea’s leaves. Make sure you are watering your plant enough to avoid this. You can also mist your Calathea several times in a week. 3. Why are Calathea leaves yellowing? Yellowing leaves is a sign of over-watering. If you notice yellow leaves, check the soil and roots. If the roots are too mushy, reduce the frequency of watering to avoid a root rot.
Style and Decor
Light Requirements :Calatheas prefer bright indirect sunlight, but they tend to burn and eventually die in direct sunlight. Locations :Calatheas are known to be temperamental. But, with the right amount of water and sunlight they can be grown indoors very easily. Keep your Calathea near a window or in your shaded balcony where it receives sufficient indirect light. Well-lit corners in offices, lobbies, cubicles, or meeting rooms are all great locations. Styling/decor tip :A single Calathea can instantly change the look of your home. It adds texture and colour to your minimalist decor. You can also group different species of Calatheas together in varying planters to make a green corner showcasing breath-taking variegations that are soothing to the eye. We highly recommend using a lighter monochrome or our gold metallic planter for the Calathea.
