Why is my Muskmelon Plant not growing?
Muskmelon requires a hot, dry climate and a long growing season preferably with warmer days and cooler nights. Avoid growing muskmelon during the rainy season or cold winters.
Why is my plant dying?
Muskmelon thrives in hot and dry climates in sandy soil and hates rain, cold or waterlogged conditions. High humidity increases the incidence of diseases, particularly those affecting foliage.
All the plant gossip, through the grapevine. Pun intended
Muskmelons are good for eyesight, they improve skin health, are good for immunity, promote hair growth, regulate blood pressure, and promote digestion.
Rich in vitamin A, B and C, and calcium, phosphorus and iron, muskmelon provides a wholesome food. Per 100 gram serving, cantaloupe melons provide 34 calories and are a rich source (20% or more the Daily Value, DV) of vitamin A (68% DV) and vitamin C (61% DV), with other nutrients at a negligible level. Melons are 90% water and 9% carbohydrates, with less than 1% each of protein and fat.
1.Unripe muskmelons are eaten as vegetables by village folks in India.
2.Muskmelon is named so because of the delighful smell of its ripe fruits. Musk is a Persian word for perfume and melon is derived from a Latin word melopepo, which means "apple-shaped melon".
It is said that the hotter and drier the season, the sweeter is the fruit. Dry weather with clear sunshine during ripening ensures a high sugar content, and better flavour. Also cool nights and warm days are ideal for accumulation of sugars in fruits.
Sandy loam soils are best. Alluvial riverbeds are also good for watermelon. The soil should be well drained and should have ample organic matter.
Maintaining sufficient moisture in soil is essential. During dry summers, irrigate the crop at 5 to 7 days intervals.
Regionally in India, Cantaloupe (Muskmelon) is also known as Kharbuja, Kasturi.
