There are numerous types of containers that suit different kinds of weather conditions, plants, and the humidity levels. The most common containers used for gardening are Plastic Containers. The main reason people prefer plastic containers are that they are very economical and can be stored easily when not in use. Also, plastic pots can be added with extra holes for better drainage. But they come with a cost, a cost on the environment. They are petroleum based and are not one of the best go-green facilitators. Besides plastic containers are not very durable in nature, and their use must be cut down as far as possible.

Next up most commonly used, are the Terra Cotta/Clay Pots. They are porous and allow the plant roots to breathe. Additionally,  they have drainage holes which prevent over watering and help maintain plant health and nutrition. But they are fragile and tend to crack when soil frees. Another serious issue with terra cotta/clay pots is that they retain heat. This may be an advantage for heat doting plants like peppers, eggplants, etc. but other plants which are less fond of heat, blaze in these pots. Briefly, they are visually appealing containers, relatively inexpensive with good drainage.

Wooden Containers are also used for many indoor growing spaces. It proves to be an excellent choice as wooden pots with weathered look are very attractive indoors. This weathered look is the main reason of withering of the wood. Leaving the pots for some months in the open weather will give this look to any wooden planter. But wooden containers are problematic when it comes to food grade safety as some of the containers are treated with highly toxic chemicals for preventing the wood from moulding or rotting. A good way to grow edible plants in wooden containers is to place another container in the wooden planter. So wooden containers must be avoided when it comes to vegetable gardening.
