    About the Seeds

    Red Amaranth (Amaranthus spp.), popularly known as Lal Chaulai, is a very nutritious and highly suitable leafy vegetable for kitchen gardening. Rapid growth, quick rejuvenation after each harvesting and high yield in super quick time are its important features. It is cooked and eaten like Spinach. The crop requires 5 to 7 hours of daily sunlight; however it is shade tolerant.

    Can I grow Red Amaranth in summers?

    Red Amaranth is very efficient at photosynthesis and it also grows better in adverse environmental conditions. Hence it is grown successfully in hot summers and also in humid conditions of monsoon.

    What type of planting soil does the crop need?

    Amaranth can be grown on a wide variety of soils. However, sandy loam soil is best suited for cultivation. It grows well in coco peat based potting mixtures too,

    Can I harvest seeds from my Red Amaranth plant?

    If not picked when tender, the Red Amaranth plant starts growing tall with its old leaves & thick stem. It will eventually flower at the top.Red Amaranth plants can be allowed to grow like this to harvest edible ‘Amaranth gains’.

    How to grow Red Amaranth microgreens?

    If you plan to grow microgreen Amaranth, grow it indoors in flat containers. Sow-scatter the seeds in a crowded manner. You can harvest it in 10-15 days by uprooting the baby plants.
