We all grow plants in pots. Usually, we fill the pot just with ordinary soil to grow our favorite plants. Because of this, plants find it difficult to sustain for longer durations. giving us sub-par results such as reduced quality, lesser quantity of flowers, foliage color, & overall plant health tends which then tends to deteriorate. Your pots should be filled with potting mixture rather than just soil!
Following are three essential ingredients of universal pot mixture that can be used to grow all kinds of houseplants in regular pots:
• Garden Soil
The Ideal garden soil is porous, with medium particle size, it has good drainage; it has better water holding capacity & a good amount of humus content. This soil is called loamy soil, regardless of its color. Loamy soil is a mixture of equal amount of sandy soil & clay soil. Such soil is readily available locally.
• Coco Peat
This is a planting medium made from coconut husk. The coco-peat can hold large quantities of water, just like a sponge. It is used as an essential ingredient of potting mixture, also as a soil-less substrate for plant cultivation. Ready to mix coco soil is fibrous, moist, light weight, & brown in color.
• Vermicompost
This is a popular organic manure derived from processing of organic waste by using earthworms. Vermicompost contains water-soluble nutrients; it is an excellent nutrient-rich complete organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. It has dark brown color, uniform moist texture & no foul odor.
• Universal Pot Mixture
One part Garden soil, one part coco-peat & one part Vermicompost (1:1:1), all three are thoroughly mixed and added in the pot. Plants grown in universal pot mixture remain healthy, active & good looking for a longer period. You can either prepare this potting mix at home, or you can buy available ready to use pot-o-mix options.
