Beetroot Seeds

• Sow seeds 1–2 cm deep directly in the pot or grow bag. Beetroot grows best with direct sowing.
• Each beetroot seed is actually a cluster of 2–3 seeds; thin seedlings to the strongest one per spot once sprouted.
• Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
• Best time to sow: August to November, in the cooler months. Avoid peak summer heat.
• Keep it in a bright spot and maintain good humidity.

• Seeds sprout in 7–14 days.
• Keep soil consistently moist during this period.
• Once sprouts appear, thin to leave one seedling every 10–15 cm.

NA - Beetroot prefers direct sowing as it dislikes root disturbance.

• Needs 5–6 hours of sunlight daily.
• Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist. Dry spells cause the roots to crack.
• Use a deep pot (at least 30 cm deep) with drainage holes. The roots need depth.
• Space plants 10–15 cm apart, rows 20–25 cm apart.
• Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
• Avoid nitrogen-heavy feeding; it promotes leaves over roots.

• Do not leave roots in the ground too long after maturing. They become woody and lose sweetness.
• Rising temperatures from February onwards cause beetroot to bolt.
• Once the plant bolts, pull it out and sow fresh in the next cool season from August.
• Beetroot does not regrow after harvest; sow fresh batches for a continuous supply.

• Roots are ready for harvest in 55–70 days.
• Harvest when the root is 5–7 cm in diameter at the soil surface.
• Pull the whole plant by grasping the greens near the base and pulling firmly.
• Harvest before the root gets too large; oversized beetroot becomes woody and tough.
• The greens can be harvested separately as a leafy vegetable from 30 days onwards.
