Product Details

Iceberg Lettuce is a crisp, refreshing cool-season vegetable that grows beautifully in Indian winters. Light to grow, rewarding to harvest, and endlessly useful in the kitchen.

Rich in vitamin K, vitamin A, folate, and water content.
The freshest way to enjoy crispy salads, rolls, and wraps at home.
Grows well in pots, grow bags, and raised beds in any Indian home garden.
Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free lettuce all winter long.

Sowing

Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray. Seeds are very fine; sow sparingly.
Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
Best time to sow: October to November, at the start of the cool season.
Keep it in a cool, dark spot and maintain good humidity. Cover the top if needed.

Germination

Seeds sprout in 7–10 days.
Keep soil moist during this period.
Once sprouts appear, move to a spot with bright, indirect or gentle morning sun.

Transplanting

Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 3–4 true leaves, usually after 20–25 days.
Transplant into a larger pot or grow bag (at least 25 cm deep) with Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix.
Transplant in the evening or on a cloudy day to reduce transplant shock.
Water well immediately after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 2 days before moving to its permanent spot.

Growing

Needs 4–6 hours of sunlight daily. Partial shade is fine in warmer months.
Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging. Soil should be well-draining.
Use a pot with drainage holes.
Space plants 30–35 cm apart, rows 35–40 cm apart.
Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.

Aftercare & Post-Harvest

Do not let lettuce overstay in the pot. It bolts quickly as temperatures rise.
If a central flower stalk appears, harvest immediately. Bolted leaves turn bitter.
Warmer temperatures from February onwards trigger bolting.
Once the plant bolts, pull it out and sow fresh in the next cool season.

Harvesting

Heads are ready for harvest in 70–85 days.
Harvest when the head feels firm and compact when gently squeezed.
Cut at the base with a sharp knife.
Baby leaf varieties can be harvested as cut-and-come-again from 30–40 days.
