The day dedicated to honoring the Constitution of India that came into effect on 26 January 1950, is celebrated with great vigor throughout the country. This year let's change the traditional way of celebrating Republic Day and set a new trend. How about Indian Tricolour Gardening?

Let's have a look at how to create an Indian tricolor by using all these materials:

Saffron:

Live plants: Dwarf orange marigold plants that have reached flowering stage are perfect for creating an orange patch. Dwarf orange cosmos can also be used. Make sure to use the plants that are already blooming.
Floral rangoli: Petals of orange marigold should be used for tricolor rangoli. It is the only cut flower which is widely and readily available in India.
Hardscape: If orange flowering plants are not available, regular green plants can be grown in orange pots.

White:

  • Live plants: White flowering Chrysanthemum is an ideal plant to make the central white patch of tricolor. Use the dwarf variety with big flowers on top that cover the foliage. White
  • flowered annuals like Alyssum and Candytuft can also be used if available.
  • Floral rangoli:Tuberose flowers, Jasmine (mogra) flowers or petals of white Chrysanthemum can be used for tricolor rangoli.
  • Hardscape: A white flowering plant can be grown in a white container. The best Hardscaping material to make a patch is white pebbles or white whisper chips.

Green:

  • Live plants: Although it may seem that green is the easiest color to source as most plants have green foliage; we should be looking to create a consistent patch. Miniature green fern is an excellent plant to use. The turf of green doob grass is another best thing that can be used to create a green patch.
  • Floral rangoli: Not flower petals are suitable to create a green patch of a rangoli. However, green leaves can be used in this case. The use of leaves is vital in floral rangoli. Ideally, leaves of Murraya or Aralia can be used for this purpose.
  • Hardscape: Green colored pots and containers, green sand or artificial lawn can be used to create green hardscape.

Blue:

  • Live plants: Blue flowering plant for Ashok Chakra is challenging to obtain, however dwarf blue salvia can be used.
  • Floral rangoli: Petals of dark blue Aster are the best for creating Ashok Chakra.
  • Hardscape:
  • Beautiful blue colored pebbles can be used to create Ashok Chakra. eg. Onyx sea blue polished pebbles.
