The Selloum Gold Philodendron is known for its large, deeply lobed, golden-yellow leaves that can easily grow up to 3 feet long. These leaves have a glossy texture that significantly adds to their visual appeal, making the plant look much more elegant and exotic.2. Growth Habits
While it grows to a manageable size indoors, the Selloum plant can grow very big when placed in the right conditions outdoors. This allows you to take your pick and place your plant wherever you want it to grow more. Indoors, it typically reaches about 5 feet in height, but in ideal outdoor conditions, it can grow much larger, sometimes reaching up to 10-15 feet.3. Low Maintenance

Additionally, as a bigger plant, this ability of the Selloum is more enhanced. It filters out commonly found indoor pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, and other particulate matter. This leaves you with a much cleaner and healthier indoor environment.●Philodendron Selloum Golden Care Tips: Some Basics to Follow
While low maintenance, the Selloum Gold Philodendron still needs some of its basic needs met in order to survive and thrive. So, remember to keep the following basics in mind:Care Requirements | Tips & Tricks |
---|---|
1. Golden Philodendron Selloum Light Requirements |
This Philodendron does best in bright, indirect light. It can also tolerate low light conditions to some extent. However, if you’re looking for it to grow slightly faster and develop according to its normal pace, you must place it near a window that receives bright, filtered light. Remember that it can also tolerate some amounts of direct sunlight. But if it is exposed to the harsh afternoon sun for too long, its leaves will scorch over time. |
2. Watering Needs |
Remember to water your Philodendron Selloum Gold only once a week. This plant likes consistently moist but not waterlogged soil. So, you must always strike the right balance when watering. If you underwater it, the leaves will shrivel up over time, whereas if you overwater it, the roots will rot and the plant will eventually die. So, if you’re unsure about when to water your plant, use Ugaoo’s Sustee Watermeter. This stick-like device will tell you the exact time to water your plant. If the indicator is blue, it means that your plant is perfectly watered. However, you must water your plant the minute it turns white as this indicates that it has used up all its water and needs more. |
3. Soil Preferences |
The Philodendron Selloum plant prefers soil that is well-drained and aerated, thus allowing its roots more space to grow and breathe. So, for this, you can use Ugaoo’s Pot-o-Mix potting soil, which is a mix of 11 essential ingredients such as Cocopeat and Perlite. These ingredients and more give your plant the perfect nutrients and drainage. |
4. Humidity |
As a tropical plant, this Philodendron thrives when provided with more humidity. So, remember to mist your plant regularly with a mister or a Pressure Spray Pump. However, if you’re unable to keep up with the schedule of regular misting, then make use of a humidity tray. You can make this with just a tray and pebbles. Fill your tray up with water and line it with pebbles so that when the water evaporates from the tray, off the pebbles, it will reach your plant’s leaves directly. |
5. Fertilization |
As a bigger plant, this plant will need slightly higher doses of whichever fertilizer you choose to feed it with. Ideally, it must be fertilized every 4-6 weeks with a proper, balanced, and all-round fertilizer. However, if you’re uncomfortable with the process of using a liquid fertilizer, you can use Ugaoo’s Plant Food Fertilizer Sticks. As we mentioned earlier, the plant is bigger, so when you are using these sticks, make sure to use two for your Selloum plant. Insert the sticks into the potted plant’s soil, away from the stem, and watch your plant flourish for 60 days without needing any extra fertilizer. |
6. Propagation |
With the Philodendron Selloum Golden plant, propagation is easy. Simply pick a stem cutting from your plant with nodes that are intact. This will allow more roots to grow from them. For proper root development, place this cutting in water first and make use of Ugaoo’s Rooting Hormone. Once the roots have developed, you can then plant it in well-drained and aerated soil. |
