    4. Epiphytic Nature

You might not have expected it but the Red Bromeliad plant is an epiphyte! As an epiphyte, this plant can grow on trees and other supports, though it can also thrive in soil or other planting media. But what’s important to know is that it is not a parasite despite its ability to grow on other plants. It simply derives its nutrients from the air and fallen material near the bigger plant.

Red Bromeliad Care: Basics to Know

While many plants are low maintenance, they still require some of their most basic needs to be met in order to thrive. Same goes for the Red Bromeliad! So, here are a few basic things to know about the Red Bromeliad plant care:
    Aspect Details
Light Requirements In order to maintain its vibrant color, the Red Bromeliad prefers bright, indirect sunlight. While this plant is more tolerant of direct sunlight, remember not to allow too much exposure as prolonged exposure may easily cause leaf burn. However, it is safe to place your plant in the direct sun during early mornings and late afternoons as the sun is less harsh during those times.
Watering Unlike other plants that grow as rosettes, the Red Bromeliad plant likes to have some water in its rosette. So, water the soil of the plant near its base every 2 weeks. But also ensure that its rosette has some water stored. Also ensure that the soil or planting medium is well-draining to prevent root rot.
Humidity As a tropical plant, the Red Bromeliad likes its humidity. So, maintain higher humidity levels near this plant and mist it regularly to keep it moist. If you’re unable to mist it, place a humidifier near it to help keep it moist.
Fertilization Use a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during the growing season. It does not need as much fertilization, so avoid feeding it more than once a month. Moreover, avoid fertilizing directly into the central cup, as it can damage the plant.
Propagation Propagate through offsets (pups) that grow at the base of the parent plant. This will allow you to retain its wonderful rosette shape. Once the pups are a third of the size of the parent plant, they can be separated and planted individually.
