Cassia Javanica, the Pink Shower Tree, is one of India's most spectacular flowering trees. Cascades of pink and white blooms that appear before the leaves; a breathtaking sight every flowering season.

Sowing

Scrape the seeds before sowing: nick the hard seed coat with a nail file, then soak in warm water for 24 hours. This step is essential - skip it and germination rates drop significantly.
Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep in a large nursery pot or grow bag. We recommend Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix mixed with garden soil for the best start.
Best time to sow: February to May, when the weather is warm.
Keep in a warm, bright spot and maintain consistent moisture.

Germination

Seeds sprout in 10–20 days after scarification and soaking.
Keep soil warm and moist during this period.
Once sprouts appear, move to full direct sun.

Transplanting

Once the seedling reaches 30–40 cm, transplant into a larger pot or directly into the ground.
Use a very large container or plant in a garden bed.
Handle the taproot carefully - Cassia has a sensitive root system.
Water well after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 3–5 days before full sun.

Growing

Needs full direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
Water every 2–3 days when young. Once established after the first year, it becomes drought tolerant.
Use a very large pot or plant directly in the ground - Cassia Javanica grows into a substantial tree.
Feed with cow manure every 20 days in the first year.
We suggest Ugaoo's Neem Oil Spray for pest control on young seedlings.
Allow the tree plenty of room - it can reach 10–15 metres at maturity.

Flowering begins from Year 3–5 from seed.
Seed pods form after flowering and dry on the tree. Collect dried pods to harvest seeds for re-sowing.
