A single Hoya heart is adorable, but it won’t grow into a full plant since it doesn’t have a stem node to sprout new growth. Even with the best care, it will stay a cute little leaf—just a rooted cutting with no plans to grow bigger!
The Heart Hoya, or Hoya Kerrii, is beloved for its heart-shaped leaves, which symbolize love and affection, making it a popular Valentine’s Day gift.
The ideal spot for your Hoya is near a window that gets bright, indirect light. A west or south-facing window is perfect, as it allows the plant to receive filtered light without much direct sunlight, which could burn its leaves.
With the right conditions, such as proper watering, soil, and light, your Hoya can live indoors for up to 30 years. Plant it in well-draining soil and place it where it gets bright, indirect light, while avoiding direct sunlight. Hoyas are drought-tolerant and don’t need frequent watering.
Overwatering, which causes root rot, is the most frequent reason for a Heart Hoya’s death. Other causes include underwatering, poor humidity levels, incorrect light, pest infestations, or soil with poor drainage. To help avoid overwatering, use Ugaoo’s Sustee watermeter to keep track of when it’s time to water.
