FAQs
What is the Indian name for Oregano?
In India, oregano is often called ajwain ke patte or wild marjoram. While it’s not traditionally Indian, it’s become a kitchen favorite thanks to pizza and pasta! Just don’t confuse it with ajwain seeds—oregano is all about those fragrant leaves and Italian vibes.
Is Oregano and Ajwain same?
Nope, oregano and ajwain aren't the same—but we get why it’s confusing! Oregano is a leafy herb used in Italian dishes, while ajwain is a spice made from tiny seeds with a bold, thyme-like flavor. Different plants, different flavors—but both can spice up your kitchen in their way!
Is Oregano easy to grow from seed?
Yes, oregano is super easy to grow from seed—even for beginners! Just sprinkle the seeds on well-draining soil, keep them warm and lightly but consistently moist, and they’ll sprout in 7–10 days. Give them loads of sunshine, good care, and you’ll have a fragrant herb garden that smells like pizza heaven in no time!
Does Oregano need full sun?
Yes, oregano is a total sun lover! It loves basking in full sunlight for at least 6–8 hours a day. More sun means more flavor-packed leaves. So, place it on a sunny windowsill or balcony, and it’ll thrive like a Mediterranean herb on vacation—happy, hardy, and delicious!
When to sow Oregano seeds in India?
The best time to sow oregano seeds in India is during spring or early summer—around February to April. The warm weather helps seeds germinate faster and keeps the plant happy. Just give it sunshine, a little love, and you’ll be on your way to harvesting fresh, homegrown oregano in no time!
None of the seeds germinated. So success rate is NIL. I don't know how the company sent such a poor product. At least I expected a few saplings to germinate but i was disappointed.
