While low maintenance, this Philodendron plant still requires some of its basic needs to be met in order to thrive in its space. So, here are a few Philodendron melinonii care tips to follow:1. Light Requirements
This plant, much like other Philodendrons, can tolerate low light conditions but prefers bright, indirect light. 6-8 hours of exposure to this kind of light daily will help this plant thrive and grow at a good pace. Remember that direct sunlight can scorch the leaves of this long leaf Philodendron, so if you’re looking to get the plant some direct sunlight, only do so during early mornings and late afternoons when the sun is soft.2. Watering
The Philodendron melinonii - as a tropical plant - does not like its soil getting completely dried out between watering sessions. So, water your plant when its soil has partially dried out. You can check whether or not your plant needs watering with the “Finger Dip Test” where you just stick your finger into the soil till the second knuckle. If it comes out dry, then it’s time to water your plant. But if it comes out with moist soil sticking to it, then your plant doesn’t need any extra water. If you can’t figure out when to water your plants, you can also make use of Ugaoo’s Sustee Watermeter . This device will tell you when it’s time to water your plants - turning white when the plant needs water and staying blue when the plant is perfectly watered. When you water your Philodendron plant, always water it deeply, allowing the water to fully reach the roots. Let all the excess water drain out of the drainage holes of the pot.3. Humidity Requirements
The Philodendron melinonii does best in high levels of humidity. So, in order to meet this requirement, you can mist the plant regularly to keep its velvety leaves moist. Otherwise, you can also place a humidifier near the plant to ensure a constant supply of the correct levels of humidity. If you’re unable to do both these things, you can also place a tray of water lined with pebbles near the plant, ensuring that when the water evaporates, it will reach the plants.4. Soil
This big leaf Philodendron requires rich, well-drained, and well-aerated soil. For this, you can use Ugaoo’s Potting Mix and Perlite, a combination of which allows for appropriate and adequate drainage and aeration, giving the plant enough breathing space to grow properly.5. Fertilization
Fertilize your Philodendron melinonii most during its growing period which comes during the Spring and Summer months. You can use an organic liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength, every 4-6 weeks. However, if you’re unable to keep up with the schedule of fertilization with a liquid fertilizer, you can make use of Ugaoo’s Plant Food Fertilizer Sticks. These will provide your plant with a slow release of balanced, all-round nutrition every time you water it. All you need to do is push one fertilizer stick into the soil and you’re good to go for 60 days!●Common Problems Faced by the Philodendron Melinonii
