Sowing

Sow seeds 1-2 cm deep in large nursery pots or bags. Bamboo seeds are best sown fresh.
We suggest well-draining fertile soil mixed with Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for a strong start.
Best time to sow: March to June, when temperatures are warm.
Keep soil consistently moist and in a warm spot during germination.

Seeds sprout in 15-30 days.

Transplanting

Transplant carefully once seedlings reach 15-20 cm.
Handle the root ball gently; bamboo dislikes root disturbance.
Plant in large pots or open ground with space for the clump to expand.

Growing

Needs direct sun, at least 5-6 hours daily.
Water consistently; bamboo dislikes drying out, especially when young.
Feed with cow manure or NPK fertiliser every 20 days during the growing season.

Don't harvest canes in the first year; let the plant establish a strong root system.

Aftercare & Post-Harvest

Once established, Dendrocalamus Strictus requires minimal care.
Water during prolonged dry spells in the first 2 years.

Harvesting

Young canes can be selectively harvested from year 2-3.
Mature, hard canes are best harvested after 3-5 years.
