✯ The Aztec Myth

For centuries, this Aztec myth about Dracaena plants has been a lore often told and retold due to its sheer ability to give you goosebumps. This legend is one of love and luck, one that even the Gods seemed to have smiled down upon.

The story begins with two individuals who fall in love - a boy named Tetzkaomatl and a girl named Kielkatzkuotl. Their love was beyond what humanity could have imagined and their bond was stronger than a million threads strung together.

They yearned for a life together but the vanity of society frowned upon their union. The girl was the daughter of a high priest and the boy was not of blue blood, thus making their potential union a thing of great controversy.

So, when the boy asked for the girl's hand in marriage from her father, the High Priest, it was taken as a insult by the "blue bloods". But his persistence shone bright in his eyes, faring beyond the denial that loomed.

In anger, the girl's father grabbed a dry stick laying on the ground and stabbed it into the ground. He gave the boy an impossible challenge - to make a leaf grow from the stick within 5 days, without which he would not allow the marriage.

So, for days, Tetzkaomatl frequented the temple to water the stick. It was a task that was, of course, deemed impossible and the girl had already begun to lose hope. But with the power of his persistence and depth of their love, on the 4th day, a weak leaf began to sprout from the lifeless stick and by the 5th day, the stick transformed into a tree bustling with life and love of its own.

The Gods smiled down and the union of Tetzkaomatl and Kielkatzkuotl was finalized, allowing them to spend the rest of their lives together with a love that never dies or fades through the passing of time.

The tree that grew from the dry stick was believed by the Aztecs to be a Dracaena and thus stemmed the Lucky Wood plant, immortalized forever by a legend of love.

After all these years, Dracaena plants - namely lucky ones such as the Brazilian Lucky Wood Plant - are known as everlasting symbols of love that persist through time and do not fade with the dark.

This makes them the perfect plants for gifting purpose during Diwali because after all, Diwali is a celebration of love, light, and knowledge.

May your festivities be full of light and love!
