    Calendula, or Pot Marigold, is a bright, cheerful cool-season flower that blooms prolifically through Indian winters. The petals are edible, medicinal, and beautiful all at once.

    • Bright orange and yellow blooms that light up any balcony or garden through winter.
    • Edible petals used fresh in salads, herbal teas, and natural skin remedies.
    • A natural pest repellent; plant near vegetables to protect your kitchen garden.
    • Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Potting Mix, chemical-free blooms all winter long.
    Sowing
    • Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in a seedling tray or directly in the pot.
    • Use Ugaoo's Potting Mix for better results.
    • Best time to sow: October to November, at the start of the cool season.
    • Keep it in a cool, bright spot and maintain good humidity.
    Germination
    • Seeds sprout in 5–10 days. Calendula is a quick, reliable germinator.
    • Keep soil moist during this period.
    • Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct morning sun.
    Transplanting
    • Seedlings can be transplanted once they have 3–4 true leaves, usually after 15–20 days.
    • Transplant into a pot (at least 20 cm deep) or garden bed with Ugaoo's Potting Mix.
    • Transplant in the evening or on a cloudy day to reduce transplant shock.
    • Water well after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 1 day before moving to full sun.
    Growing
    • Needs 5–6 hours of direct sun daily.
    • Water at the base when the topsoil feels dry. Avoid overwatering.
    • Use a pot with drainage holes.
    • Space plants 25–30 cm apart, rows 30 cm apart.
    • Feed with cow manure every 20 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray if needed.
    • Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming.
    Aftercare & Post-Harvest
    • Calendula dislikes heat. As temperatures rise from February, flowering slows and the plant declines.
    • Once flowering stops, pull the plant out. Allow some seed heads to dry and save seeds for next season.
    • Sow fresh seeds again the following October for another season of blooms.
    Harvesting
    • Flowers bloom in 45–60 days.
    • Cut flowers in the cool morning hours for the best colour and vase life.
    • Pick flowers regularly; the more you pick, the more the plant produces.
    • Harvest petals for culinary or medicinal use when flowers are fully open.
