- Fringed, fragrant flowers in shades of pink, red, white, and bicoloured mixes.
- A sweet clove-like fragrance that fills patios, balconies, and window areas.
- Long flowering season through Indian winter; great for festive and everyday décor.
- Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Potting Mix, chemical-free blooms all winter long.
Number of seeds per gram (aprox): 886
Sowing
- Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray. Seeds are fine; sow sparingly.
- Use Ugaoo's Potting Mix for better results.
- Best time to sow: September to November, before the cool season.
- Keep it in a cool, bright spot and maintain good humidity.
Germination
- Seeds sprout in 7–14 days.
- Keep soil moist during this period.
- Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct morning sun.
Transplanting
- Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 3–4 true leaves, usually after 20–25 days.
- Transplant into a pot (at least 20 cm deep) with Ugaoo's Potting Mix.
- Transplant in the evening or on a cloudy day to reduce transplant shock.
- Water well after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 1–2 days before moving to its final spot.
Growing
- Needs 5–6 hours of direct sun daily. Good light means more flowers.
- Water at the base when the topsoil feels dry. Avoid wetting the leaves.
- Use a pot with drainage holes.
- Space plants 20–25 cm apart, rows 25–30 cm apart.
- Feed with cow manure every 20 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
- Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage more blooms.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
- Dianthus is sensitive to heat. As temperatures rise from February onwards, flowering slows.
- Once the plant declines, pull it out and sow fresh seeds the following September.
- Dianthus can be short-lived perennial in mild climates but is best treated as an annual in India.
Harvesting
- Flowers bloom in 60–90 days.
- Cut flowers in the morning for the longest vase life, snipping just above a node.
- Deadhead spent flowers regularly to keep new blooms coming.
- A healthy dianthus plant can flower continuously for 8–10 weeks.

What month is best to plant Dianthus?
