Product Details
Drumstick, or Moringa, is a fast-growing tree and one of the most nutritious plants you can grow in an Indian home garden. Every part of it is useful, from the leaves to the pods to the flowers.
- Leaves, pods, and flowers are all edible and packed with iron, calcium, protein, and vitamin C.
- One of the most nutrient-dense plants to grow at home, used daily in Indian cooking.
- Grows fast, handles heat and drought, and needs very little attention once established.
- Grow it organically with Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for a healthy start.
Approx. seeds per gram: 3
Sowing
- Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep directly in a large pot (at least 40 cm deep) or in the ground.
- Moringa prefers direct sowing. Remove the seed coat (hard brown shell) before sowing for faster germination.
- Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
- Best time to sow: February to May, when the weather is warm.
- Keep it in a warm, sunny spot after sowing.
Germination
- Seeds sprout in 5–10 days.
- Keep soil moist during this period.
- Once sprouts appear, move to full sun.
Transplanting
NA - Moringa prefers direct sowing and does not transplant well once established.
Growing
- Needs full direct sun, at least 6–8 hours daily.
- Water every 2–3 days while young. Once established, moringa is highly drought tolerant.
- Use a large pot or grow bag with drainage holes.
- Feed with cow manure every 20 days. Use Ugaoo's Neem Oil Spray to protect from pests.
- Moringa grows vigorously. Prune the top when it reaches 1 metre to encourage bushy, manageable growth and more leaf production.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
- Moringa is a perennial tree; it keeps growing year after year with proper care.
- Prune hard once a year to keep growth manageable and promote fresh leaf production.
- In cooler months, growth naturally slows. Resume regular feeding when temperatures rise.
- Protect young plants from strong winds until established.
Harvesting
- Young leaves can be harvested in 60–90 days.
- Snap young tender leaves and leaf clusters from the branches.
- Pods are ready in 6–8 months; harvest when they are firm, dark green, and about 30–40 cm long.
- Pick regularly to encourage the plant to keep producing.

Customers praised these seeds for their excellent germination rates, with reports ranging from 60-100% success. Shoppers noted "plants are growing well" and grow "very fast." The health benefits were highlighted, including high vitamin and mineral content. Some customers had questions about planting methods and pruning.
The seeds have germinated. But, I have a doubt. Should it be planted on the ground or in grow bags? How tall it can grow if not pruned?
Most of the seeds germinated. Recommended. Plants are growing well.

Good quality seeds.
Moringa has many important vitamins and minerals. The leaves have 7 times more vitamin C than oranges and 15 times more potassium than bananas. It also has calcium, protein, iron, and amino acids, which help your body heal and build muscle.
It's also packed with antioxidants, substances that can protect cells from damage and may boost your immune system. There's some evidence that some of these antioxidants can also lower blood pressure and reduce fat in the blood and body.

Frequently asked questions
How to grow Drumsticks from seeds?
Get your seeds ready before planting! Soak them in warm water for 24 hours to soften the seed coat and boost germination. Plant them about an inch deep in a well-draining soil mix, then give them a good watering to keep the soil moist. Make sure they get plenty of sunlight, and in about two weeks, you’ll start seeing tiny sprouts pop up. Happy planting!
Are Drumsticks and moringa the same?
Absolutely! Moringa oleifera, often called drumstick or Moringa, is one versatile plant with numerous names—it’s also known as horseradish and malunggay. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, it's a nutritional powerhouse. And here's the best part: it’s not just the leaves! The pods, along with other parts of the tree, have earned their fame both in the kitchen and in traditional medicine. Quite the all-rounder, right?
Should I soak Moringa seeds before planting?
Absolutely! Soaking Moringa seeds in warm water for 24 hours helps soften the seed coat and kickstarts the germination process. This speeds up sprouting, making it easier for the seedlings to break through the soil. Once soaked, your seeds are all set for planting!
How long does Moringa take to grow from seeds?
Moringa seeds sprout quickly, usually within two weeks. Loosen the soil by digging a hole about a foot deep and wide. Plant 3-5 seeds in each hole, about half an inch deep, then cover them with soil. Water gently to keep the soil moist but not too wet. With the right care, you’ll see sprouts in no time!
