Product Details

These low-growing, trailing flowers have ine of the showiest summer blooms. Also known as tresure flowers, they can be grown in both ocntainerrs and flower beds and are often used as ground cover for hrdy areas where little else will grow. Gazania love a dry sandy soil with sun and can be growne on ocean fronts due to their salt tolerant nature.

Sowing

Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray and cover them well. Gazania germinates best in darkness.
We suggest Ugaoo's Potting Mix mixed with a little sand for better drainage.
Best time to sow: September to November.
Cover the tray with newspaper or keep it in a dark spot until sprouts appear. Maintain good humidity.

Germination

Seeds sprout in 7-14 days.
Keep soil moist but not soggy during this period.
Once sprouts appear, remove the cover and move to a bright spot with direct sun.

Growing

Needs full direct sun, at least 6 hours daily. Flowers stay closed in shade.
Water sparingly, letting the topsoil dry between waterings. Gazania hates soggy soil.
Use a pot with good drainage holes.
Space plants 20-25 cm apart.
Feed lightly with cow manure every 25 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.

Aftercare & Post-Harvest

Overwatering is the most common cause of rot; let the soil dry out between waterings.
Heavy monsoon rain can damage plants; give shelter or move pots under cover.
Gazania can flower for more than one season in mild climates; trim back faded growth to refresh it.
Once the plant declines, pull it out and sow fresh next September.

Harvesting

Flowers bloom in 80-100 days.
Blooms open in bright sun and close in the evening and on cloudy days; that's natural.
Deadhead spent flowers regularly to keep new ones coming.
A healthy plant flowers for several months.
