Product Details

Green podded beans plant is a herbaceous annual rich in vitamins, folic acid, and fibre. It is very low in calories and perfect to be had in your salad, a side to your main dish or a dish in itself. Have it stir-fried, cooked, steamed or boiled - there are numerous ways to include this healthy bean in your diet to help you with your health goals.

Sowing

Soak seeds in water for 6-8 hours before sowing to speed up germination.
Sow 2-3 cm deep directly in a large pot or grow bag. We recommend Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
Best time to sow: June to September, with the monsoon.
Keep in a warm spot and maintain good moisture.

Germination

Seeds sprout in 5-8 days.
Keep soil moist but not waterlogged during this period.
Once sprouts appear, move to full direct sun.

Growing

Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
Water when the topsoil feels dry. Avoid waterlogging.
Use a large pot or grow bag (at least 30 cm deep) with drainage holes.
Provide a strong trellis, fence, or pandal for the vines to climb.
Flowering picks up as days get shorter in October-November.
Feed with cow manure every 20 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away; watch for aphids on flowers.

Aftercare & Post-Harvest

Don't let pods overmature on the vine. They turn tough and fibrous.
Production slows as temperatures rise from February-March.
Always cook valor pods well before eating.
Once done, cut the vine at soil level and leave the roots in; they add nitrogen to the soil.

Harvesting

Pods are ready in 80-100 days.
Harvest when pods are flat, tender, and bright green, before the beans inside swell.
Pick every 2-3 days; regular harvesting keeps new pods coming.
A healthy vine can bear for 2-3 months.
