    Product Details

Okra is a heat-loving vegetable. It's a summer staple in Indian home gardens. Vigorous, productive, and easy to grow once the weather warms up.

    • Rich in fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and folate
    • One of the easiest summer vegetables to keep fresh at home
    • Toss it into sabzi, curries, or fry it up as a crispy side
    • Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free bhindi all season long
    Sowing
    • Sow seeds 1.5–2 cm deep directly in the pot. Soak seeds in water for 12–24 hours before sowing to speed up germination. Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
    • Best time to sow: February to July, avoiding cold winter months.
    • During this time, keep it in a warm, dark spot and maintain good humidity.
    Germination
    • Seeds sprout in 5–8 days.
    • Keep soil moist during this period.
    • Once sprouts appear, move to a spot with direct sun.
    Growing
    • Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
    • Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging. Soil should be well-draining.
    • Use a pot with drainage holes.
    • Space plants 30–45 cm apart, rows 45–60 cm apart.
    • Feed with Ugaoo's cow manure every 25 days. Use Ugaoo's neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
    Aftercare & Post-Harvest
    • Don't let pods sit too long on the plant. Overripe pods turn tough, fibrous, and inedible.
    • Reduced flowering and pod production signal the plant is nearing the end of its cycle.
    • Very high heat or heavy monsoon rain can stress the plant and reduce yield.
    • Once the plant stops producing well, pull it out and sow fresh next season.
    Harvesting
    • Pods are ready for harvest in 45–60 days.
    • Harvest when pods are tender, bright green, and about 7–10 cm long - snap easily when bent.
    • Pick every 2–3 days; pods left too long turn fibrous and woody.
    • Regular harvesting encourages the plant to keep producing more pods.
