    Product Details

Round Black Brinjal is the classic Indian baingan variety with large, meaty, deep purple-black fruits that have a rich, creamy flavour and almost no seeds. The go-to choice for baingan bharta.

    • Large, round, deep black-purple fruits with creamy, mild flesh and fewer seeds.
    • Rich in fibre, antioxidants, and vitamin B6.
    • The classic variety for baingan bharta, stuffed brinjal, curries, and grilled preparations.
    • Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free baingan all season long.
    Sowing
    • Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in a seedling tray. We recommend Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
    • Best time to sow: February to March, or June to July.
    • During this time, keep it in a warm spot and maintain good humidity. Cover the lid, soil or top if needed.
    Germination
    • Seeds sprout in 7–10 days.
    • Keep soil moist during this period.
    • Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct sun.
    Transplanting
    • Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 4–5 true leaves, usually after 25–30 days.
    • We suggest transplanting into a large pot or grow bag (at least 40 cm deep) with Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix.
    • Transplant in the evening or on a cloudy day.
    • Water well after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 2–3 days before full sun.
    Growing
    • Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
    • Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist. Avoid waterlogging. Soil should be well-draining.
    • Use a large pot or grow bag with drainage holes.
    • Space plants 60–75 cm apart.
    • Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
    • Provide light staking once the plant starts bearing large, heavy fruits.
    Aftercare & Post-Harvest
    • Don't let fruits overmature on the plant. They turn seedy, soft, and bitter.
    • A well-maintained plant can produce for 4–6 months.
    • Once production drops significantly, pull the plant and sow fresh.
    Harvesting
    • Fruits are ready in 70–90 days from transplanting.
    • Harvest when fruits are firm, shiny, and deep black-purple. A dull skin means it's overripe.
    • Cut with a bit of stem using a sharp knife.
    • Pick regularly - the plant keeps producing new fruits with every harvest.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the name of round brinjal?

The round brinjal is commonly known as Bharta Baingan, Indian Round Eggplant, or Globe Brinjal. This plump, deep purple beauty is perfect for smoky baingan bharta and rich curries. With its smooth skin and tender flesh, it soaks up flavors like a dream—making every dish a masterpiece!

    What variety is round eggplant?

Round eggplants come in several delightful varieties! Popular ones include Pusa Purple Round, Black Beauty, and Thai Round Green. These little globes of goodness are perfect for roasting, stuffing, or making the ultimate Indian eggplant dish - the smoky baingan bharta. The deep purple variety of Ugaoo's Round Eggplant seeds bring you flavor, richness, and authenticity like no other!

How many Brinjals grow on one plant?

A healthy brinjal plant can produce 10 to 15 brinjals in a season, depending on the variety and care. With the right mix of sunlight, water, and nutrients, some vigorous plants may even yield up to 20 vegetables! Keep them happy, and they'll keep your kitchen stocked with delicious, homegrown goodness every season!

    Does Brinjal need full sun?

Absolutely! Brinjal plants love the sun and need at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily to thrive. More sunshine = happier plants, faster growth, and bigger, tastier brinjals. So, find the sunniest spot in your garden or balcony, sow your eggplant seeds, and watch them flourish as they grow!
