Product Details

Cabbage (Patta Gobhi) is a cool-season staple that grows beautifully in Indian winters and produces firm, dense heads that are endlessly useful in the kitchen. Satisfying and rewarding to grow from seed.

• Dense, firm heads rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, fibre, and antioxidants.
• Versatile in Indian cooking; great in sabzi, coleslaw, stir-fries, and soups.
• Thrives in Indian winters and grows well in large pots and grow bags.
• Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free patta gobhi all winter long.
Sowing
• Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in a seedling tray. We recommend Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
• Best time to sow: September to October, ahead of the cool season.
• During this time, keep it in a cool, bright spot and maintain good humidity.
Germination
• Seeds sprout in 5–8 days.
• Keep soil moist during this period.
• Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct morning sun.
Transplanting
• Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 4–5 true leaves, usually after 20–25 days.
• We suggest transplanting into a large pot or grow bag (at least 35 cm deep and 40 cm wide) with Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix.
• Transplant in the evening or on a cloudy day.
• Water well after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 2–3 days before full sun.
Growing
• Needs 5–6 hours of sunlight daily.
• Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist. Inconsistent watering causes heads to crack.
• Use a large pot with drainage holes. Don't crowd the plants - cabbage needs room.
• Space plants 45–60 cm apart.
• Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
• Check underneath leaves regularly - caterpillars are the most common cabbage pest and hide there.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
• Don't let heads overstay on the plant. They crack and deteriorate quickly once fully formed.
• Rising temperatures from February trigger bolting.
• Once the head is harvested, pull the plant and prepare for the next crop.
• Sow fresh seeds the following September for the next winter season.
Harvesting
• Heads are ready in 70–90 days from transplanting.
• Harvest when the head feels firm and compact when squeezed. Don't wait too long - overripe heads crack.
• Cut at the base with a sharp knife.
• Side shoots may produce smaller additional heads after the main harvest.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cabbage easy to grow?

Absolutely! Cabbage is super easy to grow, even for beginners! Just plant it in cool weather (15-25°C), nutrient-rich soil, and give it a sunny spot to grow. Keep the soil moist but not soggy, feed it well, and watch those crisp, leafy heads form in 90-120 days. Homegrown cabbage = fresher, tastier meals!

How long do Cabbage seeds take to grow?

Cabbage seeds germinate in 8-10 days with the right conditions—cool temperatures (18-25°C) and moist, well-draining soil. The seedlings take about 30-40 days to grow strong enough for transplanting, and from there, you'll have fully grown cabbage heads in just 90-120 days. With some patience, homegrown cabbage is totally worth all the effort it takes to grow it!

How many months does it take Cabbage to mature?

Cabbage takes 3 to 4 months (90-120 days) to mature, depending on the variety. Early varieties grow faster, while larger heads take a bit longer. Just give them cool weather, nutrient-rich soil with Ugaoo's Pot-O-Mix, and consistent watering, and soon you’ll have crisp, homegrown cabbages ready to harvest!

Which fertilizer is best for Cabbage?

Cabbage loves nutrient-rich, well-balanced fertilizers! Want to grow your cabbage perfectly? Use a balanced NPK 10-10-10 or 14-14-14 fertilizer for strong growth. For an organic boost, feed it with Vermicompost, well-rotted Cow Manure, or Neem Cake Powder. During head formation, add potassium-rich fertilizers like banana peel compost for firm, healthy cabbages. Keep them happy, and they’ll reward you with crisp, delicious harvests!
