Product Details

Cassia Grandis is a large, fast-growing ornamental tree that produces spectacular clusters of salmon-pink flowers across its entire canopy. A long-term investment in beauty for any large garden.

  • Dense salmon-pink flower clusters that cover the whole canopy in a breathtaking seasonal display.
  • Fast-growing ornamental tree suited to India's tropical and subtropical conditions.
  • Provides generous shade and striking seasonal colour.
  • A long-term investment that becomes more spectacular every flowering season.
Sowing
  • Scrape seeds before sowing: nick the hard seed coat with a nail file and soak in warm water for 24 hours. This step is essential for good germination.
  • Sow 2-3 cm deep in a large nursery pot or bag. We recommend Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix mixed with garden soil for a healthy start.
  • Best time to sow: February to May, when temperatures are warm.
  • Keep in a warm, bright spot with consistent moisture.
Germination
  • Seeds sprout in 10-20 days after scarification and soaking.
  • Keep soil warm and moist during this period.
  • Once sprouts appear, move to full direct sun.
Transplanting
  • Transplant once the seedling reaches 30-40 cm.
  • Handle the taproot carefully.
  • Water well after transplanting and keep in light shade for a few days before full sun.
Growing
  • Needs full direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
  • Water every 2-3 days when young. Once established after year one, it is highly drought tolerant.
  • Feed with cow manure every 20 days in year one.
  • We suggest Ugaoo's Neem Oil Spray for pests on young seedlings.
  • Give it room; Cassia Grandis grows into a large spreading tree.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
  • A perennial tree that rewards patience with increasingly spectacular flowering.
  • Water consistently in the first 2 years for root establishment.
  • Light pruning after flowering keeps the canopy shapely.
Harvesting
  • Flowering begins 3-5 years from seed.
  • Seed pods form after flowering and dry on the tree. Collect for re-sowing.
