Product Details
Cauliflower is one of the most satisfying vegetables to grow at home; a patient, rewarding process that ends with a beautiful, firm head right from your own garden.
- Dense, creamy white curds rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, and fibre.
- A cool-season crop that thrives in Indian winters when temperatures drop.
- Perfect in aloo gobhi, soups, stir-fries, and rice dishes.
- Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free gobhi all winter long.
Approx. seeds per gram: 275
Sowing
- Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in a seedling tray.
- Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
- Best time to sow: September to October, ahead of the cool season.
- Keep it in a cool, dark spot and maintain good humidity. Cover the top if needed.
Germination
- Seeds sprout in 5–10 days.
- Keep soil moist during this period.
- Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct sun.
Transplanting
- Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 4–5 true leaves, usually after 25–30 days.
- Transplant into a large pot or grow bag (at least 35 cm deep) with Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix.
- Transplant in the evening or on a cloudy day to reduce transplant shock.
- Water well after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 2–3 days before moving to full sun.
Growing
- Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
- Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist. Cauliflower is sensitive to water stress.
- Use a large pot with drainage holes.
- Space plants 45–60 cm apart.
- Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
- When the curd begins to form, tie the outer leaves loosely over the head (blanching) to keep it white and protected from direct sun.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
- Do not let the head sit too long. It will start to open, yellow, and lose quality.
- Temperature rise from February triggers this rapidly.
- Once the head is harvested, pull the plant out and prepare the bed or pot for the next crop.
- Sow fresh seeds the following September for the next winter season.
Harvesting
- Heads are ready for harvest in 65–90 days from transplanting.
- Harvest when the curd is firm, compact, and creamy white; before it starts to separate or yellow.
- Cut the head with a few outer leaves attached using a sharp knife.
- Once the main head is harvested, the plant does not produce more; pull it out.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best month to plant Cauliflower?
The best time to plant cauliflower in India depends on the region! In cooler northern areas, sow from July to September for a winter harvest. In warmer southern and coastal regions, plant from September to February. Cauliflower loves the chill, so timing it right ensures those crisp, delicious heads. Happy planting!
What climate is best for Cauliflower?
Cauliflower thrives in the chilly weather! It loves temperatures between 15-25°C, making it perfect for Indian winters. Protect it from any extreme temperatures to ensure healthy harvests. The best way to do this? Use a shade net when it's too hot! A little sunshine, a little chill, and you've got yourself a happy, crunchy cauliflower!
What is the ideal soil mix for growing Cauliflower from seeds?
Coco Peat is the best medium to start your Cauliflower seeds! Coco peat's porous texture ensures perfect drainage and aeration, giving the seeds plenty of space to grow healthy roots. Once the seeds have developed at least two true leaves after germinating, sow them in a well-draining potting mix, like Ugaoo's Pot-O-Mix, to ensure healthy growth from the very beginning!
Should I soak my Cauliflower seeds before planting?
Yes! Soaking cauliflower seeds for 12-24 hours before planting gives them a hydration boost, helping them sprout faster. It’s like a mini spa day for your seeds! After soaking, dry them slightly and sow in well-draining soil. This little trick can speed up germination and give your cauliflower a strong start!
