    Dahlia is a striking flowering plant. It's known for its bold, layered blooms in a range of shapes and colours. A show-stopping choice for Indian winter gardens.

    Sowing
    • Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray. Use Ugaoo's Pot-o-Mix for better results.
    • Best time to sow: February to April.
    • Keep it indoors in low light during this time. Maintain good humidity.
    Germination
    • Seeds sprout in 6–10 days.
    • Keep soil moist during this period.
    • Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct sun.
    Transplanting
    • Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 3–4 true leaves. This usually takes 20–25 days.
    • Transplant into a pot or garden bed at least 25-30 cm deep. Use a well-draining soil.
    • Do it in the evening or on a cloudy day. This reduces transplant shock.
    • Water well right after transplanting. Keep in partial shade for 2–3 days before moving to full sun.
    • Provide light staking or support at the time of transplanting, as stems can bend under the weight of blooms.
    Growing
    • Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
    • Water regularly at the base. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
    • Use a pot with drainage holes.
    • Space plants 30–45 cm apart, rows 45–60 cm apart.
    • Feed with Ugaoo's cow manure every 20–25 days. Use Ugaoo's neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
    • Pinch off the growing tip early on. This encourages bushier growth and more blooms.
    Aftercare & Post-Harvest
    • Don't let dried flowers sit too long on the plant. Remove promptly to redirect energy into new blooms.
    • Reduced flowering and weaker stems signal the plant is nearing the end of its cycle.
    • Rising temperatures from February onwards can stress the plant and end its flowering period.
    • Once flowering slows down significantly, pull the plant out.
    Harvesting
    • Flowers are ready for harvest/blooming in 80-120 days.
    • Cut flowers in the cool morning hours for the best vase life. Snip just above a leaf node.
    • Remove dried blooms regularly. This encourages the plant to keep producing new flowers.
    • A healthy plant can keep flowering for 2–3 months once blooming begins.
