Green Amaranthus (Math Bhaji) is one of India's most nutritious and fastest-growing leafy greens. A summer staple that thrives when most other greens have given up.

    • One of the fastest leafy greens; ready to harvest in under 5 weeks.
    • Extremely rich in iron, protein, calcium, vitamin C, and folate.
    • Both leaves and tender stems are delicious in sabzi, dal, and stir-fries.
    • Grow it organically with Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, nutritious math bhaji all season long.
    Sowing
    • Scatter seeds lightly on the soil surface and press gently. Cover with a very thin layer of fine soil.
    • We recommend Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
    • Best time to sow: February to May, when temperatures are warm.
    • During this time, keep in a warm spot and maintain good humidity.
    Germination
    • Seeds sprout in 3-5 days. Amaranthus is one of the fastest germinators.
    • Keep soil moist during this period.
    • Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct or morning sun.
    Transplanting

NA - Amaranthus grows best with direct sowing.

    Growing
    • Needs 5-6 hours of sunlight daily.
    • Water with a gentle spray daily. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
    • Use a pot with drainage holes.
    • Thin plants to 10-15 cm apart once sprouted.
    • Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
    Aftercare & Post-Harvest
    • Once the plant flowers, leaf production slows and flavour changes. Harvest immediately.
    • Pull and sow fresh batches every 3-4 weeks for a continuous supply.
    • Amaranthus is excellent through Indian summer when palak and other greens have bolted.
    Harvesting
    • Leaves are ready in 25-35 days.
    • Cut the top 10-15 cm of growth. The plant will branch and produce more.
    • The more you harvest, the more it produces.
    • Harvest before the plant flowers for the most tender, flavourful leaves.
