Product Details
Green Chilli is a hot, hardy vegetable. It's a kitchen staple in almost every Indian home. Easy to grow, and productive for months once established.
- Rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and capsaicin
- One of the easiest ways to add heat and flavour to daily cooking
- Toss it into curries, chutneys, tadka, or slice it fresh as a side
- Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free chillies all season long
Approx. seeds per gram: 170
Sowing
- Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in a seedling tray. Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
- Best time to sow: January to February or May to July . This avoids frost and peak summer heat.
- Keep it indoors in low light during this time. Maintain good humidity.
Germination
- Seeds sprout in 8–14 days. Chilli is slower to germinate, so patience is needed.
- Keep soil moist during this period.
- Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct sun.
Transplanting
- Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 4–5 true leaves. This usually takes 25–30 days.
- Transplant into a larger pot or grow bag, at least 25-30 cm deep.
- Transplant in the evening or on a cloudy day. This reduces transplant shock.
- Water well right after transplanting. Keep in partial shade for 2–3 days before moving to full sun.
Growing
- Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
- Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist. Avoid waterlogging.
- Use a pot with drainage holes.
- Space plants 30–40 cm apart, rows 40–45 cm apart.
- Feed with Ugaoo's cow manure every 15–20 days. Use Ugaoo's neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
- Don't let pods sit too long on the plant. They turn red and lose their sharp, fresh flavour.
- Reduced flowering and smaller pods signal the plant is nearing the end of its cycle.
- Extreme heat or heavy monsoon rain can stress the plant and reduce yield.
- Once the plant stops producing well, pull it out and sow fresh next season.
Harvesting
- Fruits are ready for harvest in 60–80 days from transplanting.
- Harvest when pods are firm, glossy, and have reached full size.
- Pick with a bit of stem attached using scissors or a gentle twist.
