Product Details

Tinda (Indian Round Gourd) is a beloved summer vegetable and one of India's most classic warm-season kitchen crops. Mild, delicate, and easy to grow on any sunny terrace or balcony.

• Small, round, pale green fruits with mild, delicate flavour.
• Rich in water content, fibre, and vitamin C; gentle on digestion.
• A summer kitchen staple used in sabzi, stuffed preparations, and dal.
• Grow it organically with Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, fresh tinda all summer long.
Sowing
• Soak seeds in water for 8-12 hours before sowing to speed up germination.
• Sow 2-3 cm deep directly in a large pot or grow bag. We recommend Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix.
• Best time to sow: February to May, when temperatures are warm.
• Keep in a warm, sunny spot after sowing.
Germination
• Seeds sprout in 5-8 days.
• Keep soil warm and moist during this period.
• Once sprouts appear, move to full direct sun.
Transplanting

NA - Tinda grows best with direct sowing.

Growing
• Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
• Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist. Don't let it dry out during fruiting.
• Use a large pot or grow bag with drainage holes.
• Provide a trellis or support for the vines.
• Hand pollinate by transferring pollen from male to female flowers if fruiting is low.
• Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
• Don't let fruits overmature. Hard, yellow tinda is overripe and signals the plant to slow down.
• Once the plant stops producing well, pull the vine out.
• Monsoon flooding can stress the plant; ensure excellent drainage.
Harvesting
• Fruits are ready in 50-65 days.
• Harvest when fruits are 4-6 cm in diameter and light green. Don't let them overmature and turn hard.
• Pick every 2-3 days. Regular harvesting encourages more fruits.
• Cut with a bit of stem using a sharp knife.

Frequently asked questions

Is Round gourd good for health?

Yes, round gourd (also known as tinda or apple gourd) is great for your health! It's low in calories, high in water content, and packed with fiber, making it excellent for digestion and hydration. Rich in vitamins A and C, it boosts immunity, and its high potassium content helps maintain healthy blood pressure. A perfect, nutritious addition to your diet!

What is Tinda called in India?

In India, Tinda is also known as "Round Gourd" or "Apple Gourd". This small, round, green vegetable is widely used in Indian cuisine, especially in curries and stews. It's loved for its mild flavor and numerous health benefits, including aiding digestion and boosting immunity. A true comfort food in many Indian kitchens!

What is the season of Tinda?

Tinda (Round Gourd) thrives in the summer season! It is typically planted in spring (March-April) and harvested in the warmer months, usually from May to July in India. Tinda loves hot, dry weather with plenty of sunlight. So, plant it when the weather warms up, and enjoy this refreshing veggie throughout the summer!

Should I soak my gourd seeds before planting?

Yes, soaking gourd seeds (like tinda or bottle gourd) before planting can help speed up germination! Soak them in lukewarm water for about 6-8 hours to soften the seed coat. This boosts the chances of quicker and more uniform sprouting. After soaking, plant them in well-draining soil like Ugaoo's Pot-O-Mix, keep them warm, and watch those seeds grow wonderfully!
