    Kale is the king of nutritious greens and one of the most satisfying vegetables to grow in an Indian home garden. Robust, long-producing, and incredibly versatile in the kitchen. It has two sowing windows in India.

    • One of the most nutrient-dense vegetables you can grow; rich in vitamin K, vitamin C, calcium, and iron.
    • Keeps producing leaves for months from a single sowing.
    • Use in smoothies, salads, soups, stir-fries, or baked into crispy kale chips.
    • Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free kale all season long.

    Sowing
    • Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in a seedling tray.
    • Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
    • Best time to sow: September to October (for winter harvest) or March to April (for early summer harvest).
    • Keep it in a cool to mild spot and maintain good humidity.
    Germination
    • Seeds sprout in 5–8 days.
    • Keep soil moist during this period.
    • Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct morning sun.
    Transplanting
    • Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 4–5 true leaves, usually after 20–25 days.
    • Transplant into a large pot or grow bag (at least 30 cm deep) with Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix.
    • Transplant in the evening or on a cloudy day to reduce transplant shock.
    • Water well after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 2 days before moving to full sun.
    Growing
    • Needs 5–6 hours of sunlight daily.
    • Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist. Kale is tolerant but consistent moisture gives the best leaf quality.
    • Use a large pot with drainage holes.
    • Space plants 40–50 cm apart; kale grows big.
    • Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
    Aftercare & Post-Harvest
    • Kale is one of the most productive and long-lasting cool-weather vegetables. One sowing can yield for an entire season.
    • Once temperatures rise significantly, leaf quality declines and the plant bolts.
    • At the first sign of a central flower stalk, harvest all remaining leaves immediately.
    • Two sowing opportunities: September to October for winter harvest, or March to April for an early crop before peak summer.
    Harvesting
    • Leaves are ready in 55–70 days from transplanting.
    • Harvest outer leaves first by cutting at the base of the stem, leaving the central growth point intact.
    • A single plant can be harvested for 3–4 months if outer leaves are picked regularly.
    • Baby kale leaves can be harvested from 30–35 days for salads and garnishes.
