    Who says Italian is all about pastas? Their salads are both healthy and lip-smacking. The black rose lettuce is a relatively unknown variety, but just as amazing as any. It has curly, fan-shaped leaves in deep red and a shiny surface. The leaves form a compact rosette when they grow 5- to 8-inches. This lettuce has a slightly bitter and nutty flavour, making it the perfect balance for sweeter lettuces or dressings.
