    Purple Basil is Italian Basil's more dramatic sibling - deep, glossy purple leaves with an equally rich, slightly spicier flavour and stunning visual presence in any garden or kitchen.

    • Deep purple leaves with a rich, slightly spicier flavour than regular green basil.
    • Rich in vitamins A, C, and K and packed with powerful antioxidants.
    • Stunning in pesto, pasta, salads, and as a visual garnish.
    • Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix, chemical-free herb all season long.
    Sowing
    • Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray. We recommend Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
    • Best time to sow: February to May, when the weather is warm.
    • During this time, keep it in a warm spot and maintain good humidity. Cover the lid, soil or top if needed.
    Germination
    • Seeds sprout in 7–14 days.
    • Keep soil moist during this period.
    • Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct morning sun.
    Transplanting
    • Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 3–4 true leaves, usually after 15–20 days.
    • We suggest transplanting into a pot (at least 20 cm deep) with Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix.
    • Transplant in the evening to reduce stress.
    • Water well after transplanting.
    Growing
    • Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
    • Water with a gentle spray when the topsoil feels dry. Let it dry slightly between waterings - basil dislikes soggy roots.
    • Use a pot with drainage holes.
    • Space plants 25–30 cm apart.
    • Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
    • Pinch flower buds as they appear - it keeps the plant bushy and the leaves coming.
    Aftercare & Post-Harvest
    • Pinch off any flower spikes as soon as they appear. Once the plant flowers, leaf quality drops.
    • Use leaves fresh for the best aroma - flavour fades after long cooking.
    • Purple Basil is an annual. Once it flowers extensively and declines, pull it and sow fresh the following February.
    Harvesting
    • Leaves are ready in 60–75 days.
    • Cut a stem just above a pair of leaves - the plant becomes bushier and more productive each time.
    • Harvest in the morning for the best aroma and flavour.
    • The more you harvest, the more the plant produces.
