Product Details
Red Amaranthus is a vibrant, fast-growing leafy green. A nutritious staple in Indian home gardens. Easy to grow and ready to harvest in weeks.
- Rich in iron, calcium, vitamin A, and protein
- One of the easiest ways to add colour and nutrition to your daily meals
- Toss it into sabzi, dal, soups, or stir-fry it with garlic
- Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free amaranthus all season long
Approx. seeds per gram: 800
Sowing
- Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep directly in the pot. Mix seeds with a little sand for even spreading, as they're very fine. Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
- Best time to sow: March to July, avoiding peak winter cold.
- During this time, keep it in a dark spot and maintain good humidity.
Germination
- Seeds sprout in 4–7 days.
- Keep soil moist during this period.
- Once sprouts appear, move to a spot with direct sun.
Growing
- Needs direct sun, at least 5–6 hours daily.
- Water with a gentle spray daily. Soil should be well-draining.
- Use a pot with drainage holes.
- Space plants 8–10 cm apart, rows 20–25 cm apart.
- Feed with Ugaoo's cow manure every 15 days. Use Ugaoo's neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
- Don't let leaves sit too long on the plant. Older leaves turn tough and fibrous.
- If a flower spike appears in the centre, the plant is bolting. Harvest everything right away.
- Warmer temperatures and longer days trigger bolting.
- Once the spike appears, pull the plant out and sow fresh for the next cycle.
Harvesting
- Baby leaves are ready for harvest in 25–30 days.
- Cut outer leaves near the base, leaving the centre to keep growing.
- Harvest regularly; the more you prune, the more it produces.
- You can harvest red amaranthus for 2–3 cycles before it turns bitter.
