Product Details
Red Capsicum is a sweet, colourful vegetable. It's a vibrant, rewarding addition to Indian home gardens. Slow to start, but productive once established.
- Rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants
- One of the best ways to add sweetness and colour to your daily cooking
- Toss it into sabzi, stir-fries, salads, or stuff and roast it
- Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free capsicum all season long
Sowing
- Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in a seedling tray. Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
- Best time to sow: October to February, avoiding frost and peak summer heat.
- Keep it indoors in low light during this time. Maintain good humidity.
Germination
- Seeds sprout in 8–14 days. Capsicum is slower to germinate, so patience helps.
- Keep soil moist during this period.
- Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct sun.
Transplanting
- Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 4–5 true leaves. This usually takes 30–35 days.
- Transplant into a larger pot or grow bag, at least 25-30 cm deep. Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix.
- Do it in the evening or on a cloudy day. This reduces transplant shock.
- Water well right after transplanting. Keep in partial shade for 2–3 days before moving to full sun.
- Add a light stake or Ugaoo's Hardwood Sticks at transplanting time. The plant can bend under the weight of fruits.
Growing
- Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
- Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist. Avoid waterlogging. Soil should be well-draining.
- Space plants 40–45 cm apart, rows 45–60 cm apart.
- Feed with Ugaoo's cow manure every 15–20 days. Use Ugaoo's neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
- Don't let ripe fruits sit too long on the plant. They can soften, wrinkle, or attract pests.
- Reduced flowering and smaller fruit size signal the plant is nearing the end of its cycle.
- Extreme heat from April onwards can stress the plant and reduce fruiting.
- Once the plant stops producing well, pull it out. Sow fresh next season.
Harvesting
- Fruits are ready in 75–90 days from transplanting.
- Fruits start green and turn a deep red as they fully ripen. Harvest once fully red and firm.
- Cut fruits with a bit of stem attached using a sharp knife or Ugaoo's Handy Clipper, rather than pulling.
- Letting fruits ripen fully to red takes longer than picking green, but gives the sweetest flavour.

Frequently asked questions
Can I grow capsicum from their seeds?
Absolutely! Capsicum seeds are super easy to grow and don't even demand any gardening expertise from you. Simply start them in a well-draining medium like coco peat, keep the medium moist, and watch the sprout to life! Once your seeds have sprouted and grown at least 2 true leaves, transplant them into well-draining soil like Garden Soil Mix or Pot-O-Mix, giving them warmth, sunshine, and lots of love— in just 50-60 days, you’ll have baby capsicum plants ready to spice up your garden!
Can you eat Red capsicum seeds?
Technically, yes — red capsicum seeds are edible! They’re not toxic, but they can be a bit bitter and tough. Most people remove them for better taste and texture. So while munching a few won't hurt, your dish will definitely thank you if you skip them!
What is the difference between Red and Green capsicum?
Red and green capsicum are the same veggie at different stages of ripeness! Green is harvested earlier, so it’s slightly bitter and crisp. Red stays on the plant longer, turning sweeter and richer in nutrients like vitamin C and beta-carotene. Same plant, different vibes — from bold and grassy to sweet and mellow!
Is Red capsicum healthy?
Oh yes, red capsicum is a total health hero! It's packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and a sweet crunch that’s low in calories but big on benefits. Great for immunity, eye health, and glowing skin — it’s like nature’s colorful multivitamin in veggie form. Snack it, cook it, love it!
