Product Details

Salvia Red is one of the most vivid and heat-tolerant flowers you can grow in India. Brilliant scarlet spikes that butterflies adore, blooming all through the warm season with very little fuss.

Sowing

Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray. We recommend Ugaoo's Potting Mix for better results.
Best time to sow: February to May, when the weather is warm.
During this time, keep it in a warm, bright spot and maintain good humidity.

Germination

Seeds sprout in 10-21 days. Salvia can be slow; patience is needed.
Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct morning sun.

Transplanting

Transplant once seedlings have 3-4 true leaves, usually after 20-25 days.
Transplant into a pot (at least 25 cm deep) with Ugaoo's Potting Mix.
Transplant in the evening to reduce shock. Water well after.

Growing

Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily. More sun means more spikes.
Water when the topsoil feels dry. Don't overwater.
Use a pot with drainage holes.
Space plants 30-40 cm apart.
Feed with cow manure every 20 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
Pinch back young plants to encourage bushier growth.

Aftercare & Post-Harvest

Reduced flowering and weaker stems signal the plant is nearing end of cycle.
Cut back hard to encourage a flush of new growth and a second round of blooms.
Sow fresh seeds the following season for the most reliable results.

Harvesting

Flower spikes are ready in 70-90 days.
Cut in the morning for the best vase life.
Deadhead spent spikes regularly to encourage continuous new blooms.
A healthy plant can flower for 2-3 months.
