Product Details

These autumn and spring blooms are easy to gro from seeds. The sweet pea is a fast sreading/climbing vine with large fragrant blooms in a plethora of stunning colours. Plant them in wall or railing planters or along boundary walls and watch them grow and spread with sweet smelling flowers.

Sowing

Soak seeds in water overnight before sowing. If any seeds don't swell, gently nick the coat with a nail file and soak again.
Sow 2-3 cm deep directly in the pot or at the base of your support. Sweet peas dislike transplanting.
We suggest Ugaoo's Potting Mix for better results.
Best time to sow: October to December, in the cool season.

Germination

Seeds sprout in 7-14 days.
Keep soil moist but not waterlogged during this period.
Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct sun and guide shoots towards the support.

Growing

Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
Water when the topsoil feels dry. Keep soil evenly moist; dry spells shorten flowering.
Use a deep pot (at least 30 cm deep) with drainage holes.
Provide a trellis, net, or strings 1.5-2 metres tall.
Pinch the growing tip when the plant has 3-4 pairs of leaves; it branches out for more flowers.
Feed with cow manure every 20 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.

Aftercare & Post-Harvest

Remove any seed pods as they appear to keep flowers coming.
Sweet peas decline as temperatures rise from March.
Sweet pea seeds and pods are not edible. Keep them away from children and pets.
Once flowering stops, pull the vine out. Leave the roots in the soil; they add nitrogen naturally.

Harvesting

Flowers bloom in 90-110 days.
Cut flowers every 2-3 days, in the morning, when the lower blooms on a stem are open.
Regular cutting is key; once seed pods form, the plant stops flowering.
A healthy vine flowers for 6-8 weeks.
