Product Details

Sweet William is a popular ornamental and edible flowering plant native to parts of Asia and Europe. The flowers grow in clusters in a variety of shades of white, red, pink, violet and scarlet. This species dates back to ancient Rome and Greek eras and has been revered for the good looks, alluring fragrance and edible properties.

Sowing

Sow seeds 0.25-0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray. Cover lightly. We suggest Ugaoo's Potting Mix for better results.
Best time to sow: September to November, as the weather cools.
During this time, keep in a bright spot with indirect light and maintain good humidity.

Germination

Seeds sprout in 7-10 days.
Keep soil moist during this period.
Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct morning sun.

Growing

Needs 5-6 hours of direct sun daily.
Water at the base when the topsoil feels dry. Avoid wetting leaves to prevent fungal issues.
Use a pot with drainage holes.
Space plants 20-25 cm apart.
Feed with cow manure every 20 days. Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.

Aftercare & Post-Harvest

Sweet William declines as temperatures rise from March.
Reduced flowering and weaker stems signal the plant is nearing the end of its cycle.
Once flowering stops, pull the plant out.
Let a few clusters dry on the plant and collect seeds for next season.

Harvesting

Flowers bloom in 90-110 days.
Cut stems in the morning when about half the flowers in a cluster have opened.
Deadhead faded clusters to encourage more blooms.
A healthy plant flowers for 6-8 weeks.
