Sweetcorn Seeds

• Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep directly in a large pot, grow bag, or ground. Sweet Corn grows best with direct sowing.
• Sow in groups of at least 4–6 plants in a block rather than a single row. Sweetcorn is wind-pollinated and needs nearby plants to set cobs.
• Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
• Best time to sow: February to May, when the weather is warm.

• Seeds sprout in 5–10 days.
• Keep soil warm and moist during this period.
• Once sprouts appear, move to full direct sun.

NA - Sweet Corn grows best with direct sowing as it dislikes root disturbance.

• Needs direct sun, at least 6–8 hours daily.
• Water regularly and deeply; sweetcorn is a thirsty crop. Do not let soil dry out.
• Use a large, deep pot (at least 40 cm deep) or grow bag with drainage.
• Space plants 30–40 cm apart in a block pattern for good pollination.
• Feed with cow manure every 15 days. Increase feeding when tassels and silks appear.
• Use neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
• Stake plants if needed; sweet corn grows tall and can be top-heavy in pots.

• Sweetcorn does not produce a second crop. Once cobs are harvested, pull the plant out.
• Each plant produces 1–2 cobs so sow enough plants for your needs.
• Sow in staggered batches 2–3 weeks apart for a continuous supply.
• Once temperatures drop from September, productivity declines; sow fresh the following February.

• Cobs are ready in 70–90 days from sowing.
• Harvest when the silks (the fine threads at the top) turn dark brown and dry, and the cob feels firm.
• Peel back the husk slightly to check; kernels should be plump and release a milky juice when pressed.
• Twist and pull cobs downward to harvest. Cook and eat immediately after picking for the sweetest flavour.
