Teak (Sagwan) is one of the world's most prized timber trees, and India is one of its natural homelands. A long-term but deeply rewarding tree to grow for timber, shade, and ecological value.

Sowing

Soak seeds in water for 2-3 days before sowing, changing the water daily. This dramatically improves germination rates.
Sow 1-2 cm deep in large nursery pots. We suggest sandy loam or Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix with extra grit.
Best time to sow: May to August, in warm, wet conditions.
Keep in a warm, bright spot and maintain consistent moisture.

Germination

Seeds sprout in 15-30 days after soaking.
Germination rate can be variable; sow extra seeds.
Once sprouts appear, move to full direct sun.

Transplanting

Transplant to the field or large pots once seedlings reach 25-30 cm, usually after 2-3 months.
Handle roots carefully. Water well after transplanting.

Growing

Needs full direct sun, at least 6-8 hours daily. Teak must not be shaded.
Water regularly when young. Once established, it handles dry spells well.
Feed with cow manure every 20 days in the first year.

Teak grows best in well-drained, sandy loam soil and dislikes waterlogged conditions.
