    Product Details

    Thyme is a low-growing, aromatic herb. It's valued for its intense flavour and fragrance. A great addition to home kitchen gardens.

    • Rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, iron, and antioxidants
    • One of the easiest ways to add fresh herb flavour to everyday cooking
    • Toss it into soups, roasted vegetables, marinades, or herbal teas

    Sowing
    • Sow seeds 0.25 cm deep (barely covered) in a seedling tray. Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
    • Best time to sow: September to November, avoiding peak summer heat.
    • During this time, keep it in a dark spot but away from harsh direct sun. Maintain good humidity.
    Germination
    • Seeds sprout in 12–21 days; thyme is slow to germinate, so patience is needed.
    • Keep soil moist but not waterlogged during this period.
    • Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct sun.
    Transplanting
    • Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 2–3 true leaves, usually after 25–30 days.
    • Transplant into a shallow, wide pot (at least 20 cm deep) with well draining soil mix.
    • Do it in the evening or on a cloudy day to reduce transplant shock.
    • Water well immediately after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 1–2 days before moving to full sun.
    Growing
    • Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
    • Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out before watering the plant. Soil should be well-draining; thyme doesn't tolerate wet soil.
    • Use a pot with drainage holes.
    • Space plants 20–25 cm apart, rows 25–30 cm apart.
    • Feed with Ugaoo's cow manure sparingly every 25 days. Use Ugaoo's neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
    Aftercare & Post-Harvest
    • Don't let the plant flower too much before harvesting - flavour is best just before or during early flowering.
    • If the plant becomes woody and leggy with fewer leaves, it's nearing the end of its productive life.
    • Excess humidity or waterlogging can cause root rot.
    • Once the plant declines significantly, prune hard to rejuvenate it, or sow fresh seeds the following season.
    Harvesting
    • Leaves and sprigs are ready for harvest in 60–75 days.
    • Snip shoots just above a leaf node, taking no more than a third of the plant at a time.
    • Harvest regularly; the more you prune, the bushier and more productive the plant becomes.
    • A healthy thyme plant can be harvested continuously for a year or more.
