    Sowing: Summer

    The main growing season is from March to June. Seeds need to be sown in early March or April. Start your seeds indoors for a higher rate of success.

    Germination: 3-5 days

    Germinate your seeds indoors in seedling cups in a mix of cocopeat and compost and place it in a well-ventilated area. Follow the sowing instructions at the back of the packet.

    Harvest in 70-90 Days

    The approximate number of days it takes from sowing of seeds and successful germination to the time you can harvest it. PS: All other growing conditions need to be met.

    About the Seeds

    Muskmelon (Cucumis melo) belongs to the family of Cucurbits. In common usage, it comes under the category of fruits but in cultivation practices, it is treated as vegetable. The plant requires 6 to 8 hours of daily sunlight in order to produce fully formed melons. Muskmelon seed kernels are edible and nutritious, since they are rich in oils and energy.

    How to get sweet muskmelons on my plant?

    It is said that the hotter and drier the season, the sweeter is the fruit. Dry weather with clear sunshine during ripening ensures a high sugar content, and better flavour. Also cool nights and warm days are ideal for accumulation of sugars in fruits.

    What type of soil does the crop need?

    Sandy loam soils are best. Alluvial riverbeds are also good for watermelon. The soil should be well drained and should have ample organic matter.

    How often do you water this crop?

    Maintaining sufficient moisture in soil is essential. During dry summers, irrigate the crop at 5 to 7 days intervals.
