Product Details
Tulsi is a sacred, aromatic herb. It's deeply rooted in Indian homes. Easy to grow, and valued for its medicinal and spiritual significance.
- Rich in antioxidants and essential oils, and known for its immunity-boosting properties
- One of the easiest ways to bring a daily wellness ritual into your home
- Use it in teas (kadha), fresh chewing, or as part of your daily puja
- Grow it organically in Ugaoo's Veggie Mix Soil, chemical-free tulsi all year round
Approx. seeds per gram: 4000
Sowing
- Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in a seedling tray. Use Ugaoo's Organic Veggie Mix for better results.
- Best time to sow: February to March, or post-monsoon in September, avoiding peak winter cold.
- During this time, keep it indoors in low light and maintain good humidity.
Germination
- Seeds sprout in 7-10 days.
- Keep soil moist during this period.
- Once sprouts appear, move to a bright spot with direct sun.
Transplanting
- Seedlings are ready to transplant once they have 4–6 true leaves, usually after 20–25 days.
- Transplant into a larger pot (at least 30 cm deep) with well draining soil mix.
- Do it in the evening or on a cloudy day to reduce transplant shock.
- Water well immediately after transplanting and keep in partial shade for 2–3 days before moving to full sun.
Growing
- Needs direct sun, at least 6 hours daily.
- Water with a gentle spray every alternate day. Soil should be well-draining; avoid overwatering.
- Use a pot with drainage holes.
- Space plants 30–45 cm apart, rows 30–45 cm apart.
- Feed with Ugaoo's cow manure every 25 days. Use Ugaoo's neem cake and neem oil spray to keep pests away.
- Pinch off flower buds regularly to encourage bushier, leafier growth.
Aftercare & Post-Harvest
- Don't let too many flower spikes remain on the plant. They reduce leaf production over time.
- If the plant becomes woody and leggy with fewer leaves, it's nearing the end of its productive life.
- Extreme cold in peak winter can stunt or damage the plant.
- Once the plant declines significantly, prune hard to rejuvenate it, or sow fresh the following season.
Harvesting
- Leaves are ready for harvest in 60–75 days.
- Pick leaves from the top, just above a leaf node, to encourage branching.
- Harvest regularly, the more you prune, the bushier and more productive the plant becomes.
- A healthy tulsi plant can be harvested continuously for a year or more.

Why are my basil seeds not growing?
If your basil seeds aren’t growing, they might be missing their comfort zone! Common culprits: low temperatures, soggy soil, planting too deep, or not enough light.
